illumine turned 6 officially on September 26, 2019!! One of my favorite writers, Amy Poehler encourages mothers to tell kids the story of the birth on their birthdays every year. So, since very few people know these details of how illumine came to be, so let me share:
After about 14 years of teaching yoga and 5 years of marriage I felt very very lucky and blessed. It was the Fall of 2012 at about 2:30 in the afternoon: I was leaving the Equinox where I am a member, and I thought, “I just worked a full day, worked out and I have so much energy. I think I could do something more.”
It led to asking some deeper questions: What was I meant to do with my life? Teaching yoga was born out of a passion and love for the philosophy. My academic degrees (psychology, theology, sociology and organizational development) weren’t easily applicable to a “job.” So I considered a lot of options.
In February 2013 Jason and I went on our anniversary trip to the Maldives. I set an intention to get clarity on my next chapter. About 5 months later, the idea of illumine came into my mind! That was April 2013, and we had the launch party (with the premier issue in print) on September 26, 2013. And this year illumine turns 6!
I’ve reflected on lessons I’ve learned from creating illumine
