It's very important not to confuse serenity and apathy. One of the characteristics of a stable spiritual practice is not to be vulnerable to outer circumstances, whether favorable or unfavorable. The practitioner's mind is likened to a mountain that the winds can't shake; he's neither tormented by the difficulties he may come across nor elated by his successes. But that inner equanimity is neither apathy nor indifference. It's accompanied by inner jubilation, and by an openness of mind expressed as unfailing altruism. --Matthieu Ricard, the Buddhist monk dubbed "the world's happiest man" by Harvard University researchers. Thank you to North Shore Meditation for sharing this insight. Sometimes I get stumped on how to proceed in this sometimes upsetting, seeming unfair or incomplete very public process of democracy. Because I start my day in meditation and feel empowered and inspired to do good things and then at some point I check in with the world and it feels like some people sold out (ahem, Senator Collins) and it impacts millions. So I’ve started making a difference in my seemingly small world, being my best (thanks Melania🤣) and creating anyways with a big heart and vision. No apathy here, I feel an ILLUMINE revolution happening. 💜🧡💪🏽🌟🦄🌈Stay tuned for what we are up to and planning for 2019. What are you up to to resist apathy and how do you stay serene? Xoxo ...
