The yoga tradition reminds us that external teachers and guides exist to point us back towards our inner teacher, or guru, that dwells in each of us. Many forms of modern yoga use a format where the teacher is an expert with the answers, and the student depends on the teacher for those answers. While this approach is an important way to transmit knowledge about technique, it does not directly support self-reliance and empowerment in students. The Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy approach offers a unique alternative.
In Phoenix Rising classes and one-on-one sessions, students experience yoga postures as vehicles for self-discovery. The emphasis is always on what’s happening in the present moment, rather than achieving a particular outcome. The body becomes a gateway for inner exploration, and comes to serve as a reliable guide through life. Every aspect of a class or session is designed to empower the student to find his or her own answers, while the practitioner facilitates the process.
If you’d like to learn more, either as a potential student or practitioner, join Nick Beem on Sunday, Sept 22 for a 2 hour experiential introduction to Phoenix Rising. You will have a chance to explore elements of a Phoenix Rising yoga class and observe part of a one-on-one session.
