This is an image of deep prostration, a position which is also called “lowering the mast of the ego”.  Ego in this sense refers to the feeling of “being a separate self” which causes us to  struggle with everybody and everything else.

When the mast of the ego is lowered, there is enlightenment.
The helmet in this picture  signifies the enormous courage it takes to put down our armor, to bow deeply and to give up our illusions about ourselves.

Here, the helmet is wrapped in a web of jewels representing the Net of Indra, the ancient metaphor for the interconnectedness of all beings.  At every intersection of the net, a jewel reflects every other intersection, just as every being is the reflection of all beings.

The petals which fall from the sky are symbols of Awakened Mind.  Legend says that when Buddha reached full enlightenment while meditating under the Bodhi Tree, lotus petals fell from the sky.
