In a recent podcast interview, Scott Becker asked me which women leaders inspire me. I thought about this long and hard, not because I didn’t have any, but I wanted be specific as to how and why they inspire me. Here’s my top 6 in order of when how long (from longest to shortest) I’ve known them or of their work.
Shiva Rea
My first “real” yoga teacher, with whom I apprenticed from many years and she continues to be a role model and mentor for me
Krista Tippett
I started listening to her radio show, formerly Speaking of Faith, now On Being. for probably 16-17 years. She is the “Terry Gross of spirituality” in that she is such a good interviewer, asks potent questions that get to the depth of a topic, and she is a fantastic listener which, as the host, guides the listener.
Brené Brown
I love her work (books, talks and interviews) on authentic leadership and vulnerability (daring to do great things). She’s a great story teller.
Amy Poehler
Her book, Yes Please!, is one of my all time favorites, and I highly recommend the Audible version, although I own it in print, Kindle, and Audible. She talks about the hard work and the lessons learned to become accomplished in her art as a comedy writer.
Mindy Kaling
I read her books before becoming a big fan (I’m not a bit TV watcher). Her writing made me realize how diligent work over many many years is required to become accomplished as a writer and producer.
Jennifer Love
created a women’s entrepreneur mastermind, One More Woman. She works with women on rewriting their “money story” and helping to identify pattern, limiting beliefs, and renewed awareness around money and business that has helped me significantly move forward in my business.
