From formal programs to armchair learning… there’s something for you
I have always loved learning! I was the weird kid who hated weekends and summers because it meant no school. And then I indulged in three graduate programs and as many workshops and trainings I could fit into my schedule. And oh my! My overflowing bookshelves… my appetite for learning is insatiable. Sound familiar?? Here are my suggestions some very unique offerings for learning: some by Chicago-area teachers (we are so lucky they are right in our backyard!), a book, and some other options that might work for a busy schedule.
Samgha Yoga Shala Teacher Training
If you haven’t already experienced the very special flavor Samgha Yoga Shala, check it out. Robert Pelaski has travelled the world to study yoga in the tradition of Jivamukti, and he holds the space at the Shala for students to grow and deepening their yoga journey. The bhava, feeling, emotion, or mood, at the shala is a beautiful integration of bhakti, asana, and dharma. A rare gem in our community!

Passion of the Western Mind by Richard Tarnas
I am re-reading this book for the third time since graduate school. It is a complete and tangible history of philosophies written by the cultural historian and forward thinker, Richard Tarnas. He is well respected in the philosophic and historic academic world, as well as the world of consciousness and psychology. He encourages people to understand the past, and “unless we are able to perceive and articulate, on their own terms, without condescension, certain powerful beliefs and assumptions… then we fail to understand the intellectual cultural foundations of our own thought.” (From the Introduction to Passion of the Western Mind.)
Philosophers Notes by Mind Valley
In the last ILLUMINE newsletter, the most “clicked” on link was the Theory of Awesomeness from Mind Valley. I hope you have found the many wonderful resources from this company, including Philosophers Notes, which are summaries of great books, classics as well as contemporary philosophy/self-help, available by audio and/or pfd.
