When yoga instructor Debbie Muraff began her journey almost ten years ago, she could have never imagined where it would lead. As a young mother, she developed her practice with intention to heal others from the inside out – her own serious health issues brought awareness to the power and strength of inner peace and determination. An avid cook and busy mother, she focused her energies on teaching and taking care of her family. Two years ago, however, her life took a more challenging turn.
Surviving thyroid cancer and finding herself a busy single mother, Debbie restructured her life and practice. After an enlightening yoga retreat last year, Debbie returned home to find her teenage daughter had discovered the benefits of following a modified version of the Paleo diet. Excited to incorporate the healthful benefits, Debbie explored ways to offer her children nourishing and tasty meals, tweaking her own recipes in order to create gluten free versions of the foods they loved. Desserts proved to be the most fun but also the most challenging until she happened upon a cookie that looked a little like brittle…and Sideways Cookie Brittle was born.
Baking early in the morning before her home studio filled with students, she methodically worked through recipes that offered promising results. By the time her classes began, the house smelled like a bakery. Always the entrepreneur, Debbie began giving samples and bites after class, finally distributing the recipe she follows today – a delicious gluten free, vegan, low fat cookie brittle that has hints of oatmeal and cinnamon with a sprinkle of chocolate. Her logo, a sideways ‘8’ or an infinity symbol, reflects the 8 essential ingredients to her cookie in addition to honoring the importance of limitless possibilities found within us all.
