Get Curious and Creative

Make America CREATE Again

Make America CREATE Again, as see on sign off Chicago Avenue, Chicago,

There once was a yoga teacher who loved the gorgeous, evocative images and inspiring stories in magazines. She had a spark of an idea, and thought, “Maybe I could do this–maybe I could create a magazine.” She followed that spark and worked tirelessly to assemble a team of writers, editors, photographers and artists, and after many brainstorming sessions, meetings, edits, proofs and late nights, ILLUMINE was born!

If you’ve ever had a creative spark become reality, you know that it takes passion, curiosity and hard work (and let’s not forget, the magic of collaboration) to keep that fire going.

But maybe you’re in that beginning stage–flirting with a creative idea, curious about possibilities. How do you dive in?

Here are our ideas, based on ILLUMINE‘s founder, Lourdes Paredes’, process for getting (and staying) curious and creative:

INTERVIEW an “expert”
Ask someone who is doing something you enjoy or are curious about, to lunch. Ask how they  got started, what they would do differently, and best ways to get started.
Go on a #Creative DATE
Make plans to take yourself out to an artistic venue: museum, concert, vino and painting, coffee house and live music. Whatever it is, get yourself enjoying art, being in the presence of other artistic and creative people.
Plug IN
A lot of times we make ourselves unplug, but in fact the internet is quite a great source of possibility and exploring what is out there. Give yourself time to purposefully surf the net for resources, look up the greats, and the people are up to creative things, put the thing you are obsessing over into the search engine and keep following the links to go deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of your interest.
