Every issue of ILLUMINE features an Artist Profile because we believe being creative and expressing your SELF is what makes the world shine so bright. Imagine if an artist decided not to create something or express something through his/her art. Have you been touched, provoked, inspired by art?
Artist Matthew Hoffman is truly an influencer through his art. It started in 2002 with a small sticker that simply states “you are beautiful.” That sticker has traveled around the world, by the power of community. It’s been handed or stuck over 2 million times, on every continent (including Antarctica) and translated into 81 languages.
His work has evolved to many other phrases, all bold, positive messages. The messages are intentionally vague and open to interpretation. “I never want to tell people what to think. I want people to experience the phrase, and let them run with it, however they need to. My hope is to make moments in daily life just a little better. One person at a time.”
Check out his latest downtown public artwork at the new Apple store and along the RiverWalk.
He started with a simple phrase that was not just a compliment, it is a message. And he made it shareable through a sticker, and that took a life of its own. What message are you communicating with your life, your work, your presence that influences, inspired, evokes a deeper connection? DO IT now, more and LOUDER!
